Multihulls: comfort, performance and safety on two hulls
Our presentation to the Blankenese Sailing Club focused on the differences between catamarans and monohulls. Attendees were given an insight into the special sailing characteristics of multihulls, including increased stability without heeling, generous space and the manoeuvrability of two engines.
Another key topic was the performance of catamarans, particularly in light wind and downwind conditions. Contrary to some preconceived notions of sailing characteristics, modern catamarans perform impressively: A head-to-head comparison between the Lagoon 43 and the Jeanneau SO 440 showed that the average speeds can compete with monohulls on many courses. Catamarans not only offer more comfort and stability, but also impressive sailing performance, especially in rough winds. The question of the right sail set-up - from gennaker and code zero to parasailor - was also examined in detail.
Prejudices and reality - why catamarans are becoming increasingly popular
In addition to the many advantages of catamarans, we also discussed some of the common misconceptions. While the availability of moorings or upwind performance have often been cited as challenges in the past, current market figures show that the catamaran market is growing significantly with an annual growth rate of 7.95%. This underlines the fact that more and more sailors are discovering the benefits of multihulls.
Thank you for the open dialogue!
We would like to thank the Blankenese Sailing Club for the great interest and exciting discussions. It was a pleasure to share our knowledge about Lagoon catamarans and perhaps open up new perspectives on multihull sailing for some of the participants.
